Concerned Catholics must act now because both proabortion groups and Democratic community organizers are actively lobbying for quick passage of any health care reform package. Here is the key message . . .
"ABORTION IS NOT HEALTH CARE"
. . . and, therefore has no place in any health care reform. The only way to overcome vague wording in these bills is to "explicitly exclude" abortion and abortion funding in health care plans. It is not enough for the language to be simply neutral or that abortion not be mentioned.
Here are some things concerned voters can do:
1. Send letters to the editor. See www.rtl.org under Health Care Reform for examples of letters to the editor.
2. Call our U.S. Representative Thaddeus McCotter, who is staunchly pro-life, and let him know that you are behind him 100% on this issue. Holy Spirit parish is in the 11th Congressional District.
3. Call U.S. Senator Carl Levan (202-224-6221) and Senator Debbie Stabenow (202-224-4822) and tell them abortion must be explicitly exluded.
4. Educate yourself on this issue at www.rtl.org (Rite to Life of Michigan) and
www.nrlc.org (National Right to Life Committee) so you can explain to your family and friends why abortion must be "explicitly excluded" from health care.
5. Sign the health care petition online at www.rtl.org or download a paper version, sign it, and ask five friends to do the same.

Please pray that our congressmen and women enact legislation that does not allow for taxpayer funding of abortion, rationing of health care, or expanded access to abortion.
